It’s Taking Over Me!

Well, this title could mean a lot, and quite possibly was in an episode of Star Trek, but it’s not what you think. As some of you may know, I recently bought two games, Rock Band and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I also, as some of you may know, have become completely addicted to these games. In fact, for the next few days I probably won’t even be online a lot during the day, because I’ll be playing them.

It’s a 5/5 for both of them, and I think you know why. For Rock Band it’s the team play, and darn it, it’s just so gosh darn fun! For Super Smash Bros. Brawl, it’s the multiplayer, and…Darn it, it’s just so gosh darn fun! For some games, there isn’t exactly a way to explain how it feels, it just IS fun. And sometimes you JUST about have your finger on it, and then the game slaps your hand and tells you “Hah! You’ll never find out the secret spice mixture that makes this game so fantastic!” Exactly, Mr. Italicy (get it?), well, except for the spice mixture part, but good effort!

Anyways, both these games are sure to keep you going for days, Rock Band goes for $179.99 at Best Buy (funny, for once it actually is the best buy) and Super Smash Bros. Brawl goes for 49.99 (Amazon.ca) Note - All prices are in Canadian Dollars.

PS - 3 (Get it?) But by the way, right before I begun writing this posts, I was actually playing Rock band and Super Smash Bros. Brawl…I know, I REALLY need to quit…Well, anyways I’m going to make no effort at quitting and play some more right now…

Full Frame Bike In Your Backpack

Full Size Folding Bicycle
Awesome. People, THIS is innovation! The “Urban Street Concept Bike” is a collaboration with Cube and Gregor Dauth. First revealed at Eurobike 2007 the full frame bike minimizes into something that will fit into your backpack. Check out the site for more images, though unfortunately, while the website is (mostly) in english, that specific page is not, however there is a video with subtitles in english.

Officially Addicted

Okay, just to get things clear, this post is not on a drug, it’s on something much, much worse. It’s on a game. That game, is Army of Two, and luckily I’ve been able to pull myself off of it for long enough to write this post. It’s an amazing game. Four out of Five. Why? Well, it’s got beautiful graphics, runs extremely smoothly, and it’s gameplay is some of the best I’ve seen in awhile. But why isn’t it Five out of Five? Well, it’s not SUPER original. It’s basic game mechanics come across as Gears of War with teamwork, upgrading and buying of new weapons, and a setting in the real world. However, there is one “bug”; One core problem is that in order to continue to the next area, you must first kill all of the enemies in the existing area. I still love it though…Must…Fight…Urge…To play…Agh! Can’t fight it. See you guys later, I’ve got some gaming to do!

“Hairscalator” Cool Ad

Hairscalator Ad Just found this ad on Core77.com and it is totally freakin’ awesome! Unfortunately not much more is known about this very creative media for advertisement other than it was done by Young & Rubicam (who, might I say, have an excellent web site design-be sure to check it out).

PS - Sorry for the short post today…

Intel Six Core Processor THIS YEAR!

Wow, that’s all I can say to the news that Intel will be shipping a SIX core xeon processor this year. It’s planned for the second half, and will be part of the MP 7000 series. Not even sure what to say about this, but how impressed I am at modern computer technology. Now, I’m not one for speeches but…Wait, I am one for speeches, woops. Although, apparently Intel has an 80 core processor (with each core running at 3.16 GHz) which Intel says will be released in the next five years (OMG!). Also, considering that the four cores only came out in 2006, this is pretty amazing. Let’s just hope that 80 core doesn’t weigh 80 pounds.

$200 Blu-Ray Player in 2009?

Finally, Blu-Ray can actually be affordable! With the demise of HD-DVD, Blu-Ray will have increased profits, meaning the manufacturers can lower the price and get more buyers. Yesterday morning Sony Electronics president Stan Glasglow told Gizmodo that it’s a Blu-Ray player for $200 could happen in 2009, and one for $300 in this year, meaning more viewers, meaning more Blu-Ray discs! However, these machines won’t be made by any cheap Chinese company, or at least not until they decide to license the technology to them. But this all raises the question, will the world switch to HD? Well, the US will, mainly due to the TV switch from SD to HD, but what about Canada? Well, yes, but not quite as soon as I’d hope, mainly due to Canadian broadcasters not having this limitation, however we will enjoy much more HD content, due to the US changing everything over to it.

Finally, I think I can get back to one a day!

Well, the title says it all folks, yes, I think I can get back to one a day. I’ve decided to give in and use MarsEdit, and I personally think it’s awesome! This means that it will be much more likely for me to post, ’cause I’m both lazy and busy, so this makes it quite a bit faster. All I wish was that you could actually UPLOAD to flickr, but what the hey, it’s awesome, which compliments my awesomeness…Well, I’ll stop gloating and ask what YOU guys think, is MarsEdit awesome, or do you just prefer the web client?

68

Yes, 68 is the title of this post, but no, we aren’t talking about Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy. We’re talking about blogs, and RSS, and why I love it. (I also love formatting :P). You’ve probably figured out that that means I have 68 blog posts to read. Well, 68 posts to skim through and find the good ones! At the top of the list was news.com at 21, core77.com with 12, and Macworld, also at 12. Hopefully, soon I’ll be able to post ALL of my RSS subscriptions to the blog. You know you can tell a lot about someone from their RSS feed subscriptions. On the same subject of RSS, what do you guys use as a reader? Personally I love NetNewsWire, though any would work as long as I can flag certain posts (in order to remind me to link to them). Don’t you just love RSS (except for the fact that it can totally destroy your social life)?

HDR in Photoshop

Well, a few days ago I decided I wanted to learn about High Dynamic Range (or HDR), which basically enables a higher contrast between the light and dark in an image. So, I took it upon myself to find out how to do it, and I found out that it was easier than I had thought. All you have to do is set your digital SLR (not sure how to do it on a point and shoot) to “Auto Bracketing” which takes a number of pictures with different exposure times, take the pictures, open them in Photoshop, and go to File>Automate>Merge to HDR. Not only can you use HDR to make images have better contrast, you can use them to make cool effects, like this:

High Priced iPhones

No, if you’re wondering this post is NOT about Canada, or the US, it’s about the Republic of Ireland, and the insane price of the iPhones there. iPhones will be coming to Ireland on March 14, carrying with them a price of $1813 USD, and runs on older networks than some other phones. And the minimum service plan is around $70 USD per month, and that only allows 175 minutes of talk time, and 100 text messages. So, if you’re thinking about getting an iPhone in Ireland, do yourself a favour, and Jailbreak it! Source: CNET’s News.com
